MANSTON AIRPORT GROUP
Manston Airport Group function is:-
To monitor the conversion of the military airfield to a commercial airport.
To ensure the development is environmentally acceptable.
To disseminate information to interested parties, particularly the local community.
The airport was purchased by the Kent International Airport
Ltd. which had been taken over by the Wiggins Group, they operated commercial passenger and freight under the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and known as RAF Manston. It is sited west of Ramsgate on the Isle of
Thanet, Kent. UK.
The local authority (Thanet District Council) granted Certificate of Existing Use to
KIA-M, the legality of which was challenged by MAG in the High Courts, this excluded the operators from :-
an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
the need to apply for planning permission for any expansion.
the need to comply with Air Quality Management (AQM).
any provision for compensation to those who may be affected by the development.
