stop dithering? Asks Jenkin

"This is fiddling on the margin of the problem of aircraft noise, not
dealing with the substance", said Bernard Jenkin MP, Shadow Transport
Minister, following a written question due to be answered today, on whether
or not John Prescott has reached a decision on the outcome of the 1997 to 1999
consultation on aircraft noise limits.
"We all support measures to limit the environmental effects of air transport,
but after nearly four years in government, Labour is still producing little
more than just hot air. The government needs to answer the real questions. Where
is the new runway capacity in the South East going to be? Ministers are hiding
from this issue until after the general election.
"Aircraft noise is an increasing problem, particularly at night and
over quiet suburbs and countryside. We are looking at better assessment of
aircraft noise relative to background noise. There should be a presumption
against night flights and low flying over tranquil areas of countryside and
suburbs at night."
